I hold a Degree in Law (LLB) at the Faculty of Law of the University of Madrid (“Universidad Complutense”) and a a Master in Taxation at the “Instituto de Empresa”, which is one of the World Top Ten Business Schools. I also have finance and accounting studies. Recently I completed the Certificate in Business Accounting at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the United Kingdom (“CIMA”).
After finishing my studies in 1988, I start working in the tax department of Ernst & Young in the Madrid office, where I worked for three + years as Spanish tax advisor.
In 1993 I decided to move to the coast and open my own legal firm in Castellon with one of my friends and colleague at Ernst & Young. In 1996 my partner left the firm (to start a very successful political carrier which ultimately led him to be a Minister of the Spanish Government) so I became the Managing Partner of the firm. Since then, the firm had had a steadly growth and now we have offices in Valencia, Barcelona and in the near future in Madrid.
I have been the Managing Partner for almost 15 years. In 2009 I decided to left that position to focus again in the development of the tax department of the firm. Since then, we have been involved in a few important projects. The most important one has been a class action against the Spanish Government for the Capital Gains Tax unlawfully charged to other European Union citizens. Please refer to the press articles to know about that project. I have been directly involved in that project with more than 800 clients.
I am currently member of the Madrid Lawyers Bar Association “Ilustre Colegio de Abogados de Madrid, (license 40.730), Spanish Tax Advisors Association “Asociación Española de Asesores Fiscales, Association of Financial Law “ Asociación Española de Derecho Financiero “ and the International Fiscal Association (member 19.906).
Besides my professional activity, I have been invited professor of International Taxation in the Master of Law of the University Jaime I (Castellon) and in the Instituto de Empresa (professor of tax audits). I am advisor of the Faculty of Law of the University Jaime I with regard to the adaptation of Law estudies to the Bolonia guidelines. I have also participated in several publications about taxation.
